New Town Clerk And Tax Collector Business Location
Town Clerk and Tax Collector Eleanor Smith announces the Town Clerk and Tax Collector business will all be conducted at her residence at 793 Wiltse Hill Road, Jordanville, NY 13361. The phone number to call for an appointment is 315-985-0405. The change will occur on December 20, 2024. Until then, the Clerk will be in Starkville at the courthouse building during the posted business hours. This will provide the public with more hours of availability for Town Clerk services.
Creation of Town Clerk and Tax Collector into a single office (Town Clerk/Tax Collector)
At the April 8, 2025 meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Stark, the Board moved to abolish the office of elected Tax Collector and assigned all duties and records of the Town of Stark Tax Collector to the Town of Stark Town Clerk. The Town Clerk shall assume the duties of collecting and receiving all state, county and town taxes and assessments on January 1, 2026.
Upcoming Calender of Events and Town Board Meetings
There will be local elections in the Town of Stark this year, New York State has determined that all elections for public office be held during during numbered even years. There are 4 positions open for election locally. A 2 year term for Town Supervisor, a 2 year term for Town Clerk/Tax Collector, a 2 year term for Highway Superintendant and a 4 year term for Town Justice. The last day to get signatures for designating petitions is April 2, 2026. Party designating petitions may be filed from March 30-April 6, 2026 with the Herkimer County Board of Elections.
The first day to sign Independent Petitions is April 14, 2026. Independent Petitions are to be filed from May 19-May 26, 2026 to be on the ballots this November.
Dumpster Day for the Town of Stark will be held on Saturday May 9, 2026 from 9 AM to 1 PM at the Highway Department Garage in Starkville. There will be no tire collection on this day.
The Van Hornesville Fire department will be conducting the spring Hydrant flushing in the hamlet of Van Hornesville on Saturday May 9, 2026 beginning around 1:30 PM. During this time, you may experience some discoloration of your water. Just let the water run until it clears up.
